Teaching to Change LA (TCLA) is an online journal that addresses
educational conditions in Los Angeles schools. K-12 students, parents, teachers,
guest contributors, and researchers provide the content for the journal, which
is published by IDEA eight times a year with weekly updates. Journal readers
include those who learn and teach in Los Angeles schools, local and state
policymakers and legislators, and readers from across the country.
TCLA creates a unique environment from which urban students, parents, and
teachers can be heard beyond their local classrooms. Our contributors use
computer generated maps, photographs, graphs, video, and audio to communicate
the complex ideas, stories, and other data that are relevant to their own
communities and schools. TCLA-affiliated classrooms become vibrant intellectual
sites that contribute directly and connect virtually to civic life. Participating
parents gain tools for examining the conditions in their children's schools.
Readers can share in the vibrant public debate about what conditions for learning
every student deserves and how these conditions can be insured.
