Urban Teacher Education Network (UTEN)

The UTEN consists of graduates of UCLA's doctoral program in teacher education who are now holding faculty positions at prominent universities across the nation. The UTEN provides both virtual and face-to-face support to assist new faculty in creating contextually appropriate versions of UCLA's Center X Teacher Education Program in their new institutions. The UTEN meets for an annual conference at UCLA in July and invites members to share ideas, resources and the struggles they face in their work as social justice educators. The network additionally supports two summer residencies each year for UCLA graduates currently teaching at local CSU campuses. Jeannie Oakes and Megan Franke direct this work and are supported by Solange Castro Belcher, the Content Editor of Teaching to Change LA, IDEA’s online journal.
